Rapid-Pi: Release History
Version 2.1 Build 1788 (Released on 28-Jun-2009)
New Features
- Rapid-Pi toolbar in MS Office applications now remembers its location
and restores it when the application is closed and restarted.
- Repair / Modify Installation Wizard can now enable the Rapid-Pi add-in
for MS Office if it becomes disabled.
Bug fixes
- Font installation issues on 64-bit versions of Windows
Version 2.01 Build 1756 (Released on 18-Aug-2007)
Bug fixes
- Parsing errors when processing some malformed subscript, superscript and fraction expressions
- Incorrect version number in error reporting configuration file
Version 2.00 Build 1753 (Released on 12-Aug-2007)
New Features
- Integration with Microsoft Office:
In addition to Microsoft Word, Rapid-Pi 2.0 can also integrate with Microsoft Excel,
PowerPoint and Publisher. This allows you to insert a rapid-Pi equation into an Excel spreadsheet,
PowerPoint presentation or Publisher publication with a single click.
- Portability Mode: Rapid-Pi 2.0 supports rendering equations in "Portability Mode".
Portability Mode equations can be viewed on any computer without requiring
Rapid-Pi fonts. Portability Mode equations look the same
as normal equations when viewed on the screen (without zooming) but have a lower quality when printed.
Portability Mode is an optional feature that can be switched on via the Edit menu.
Enhancements
- Refreshed look and feel: Rapid-Pi 2.0 uses Microsoft Office 2007 color scheme
to provide a more modern look.
- Improved integration with Word: Rapid-Pi 2.0 uses an improved method to integrate
with Microsoft Word. The new method is more stable and avoids macro security warnings.
Bug fixes
- Rapid-Pi sometimes failed to properly shut down under Windows Vista,
unnecessarily consuming system resources.
Version 1.53 Build 1694 (Released on 16-Feb-2007)
Bug fixes
- Warning message in the release version of Word 2007
- Rapid-Pi crashed when scrolling in Word 2007
- Warning message when running Rapid-Pi Repair / Modify Installation Wizard under
Windows Vista
Version 1.52 Build 1681 (Released on 10-Nov-2006)
Bug fixes
- Rapid-Pi Setup failed to correctly detect .Net Framework under Windows XP x64
- Rapid-Pi Setup sometimes mis-detected Word 2003 as Word 2007 and as a result
failed to correctly install Rapid-Pi button on Word's toolbar
Version 1.51 Build 1665 (Released on 14-Jul-2006)
New Features
- Better resizing of equations / user-selectable font: Rapid-Pi now allows the
user to specify the font name and size to be used for all text in the equation.
Previously, Times New Roman 12 was always used. Changing the font size also
provides a convenient way to re-size equations (eg a larger font size can be
used for presentations and a smaller font size for documents). Mathematical
symbols are automatically scaled to match the text font size.
- Number set symbols: Rapid-Pi now provides "blackboard bold" /
double-struck number set symbols (such as R for real numbers and Z for integers).
- Export as Image: Rapid-Pi can now export the equation as an image file.
- Copy Image: Rapid-Pi can now copy the equation image to the clipboard
(the image can then be pasted into another application, such as a graphics
program).
- Programmatic access / API: Rapid-Pi now provides a limited Application
Programming Interface (API) to allow Rapid-Pi objects to be manipulated
programmatically.
Enhancements
- Better zooming / resizing: Rapid-Pi 1.5 provides enhanced support for
zooming and for resizing equations in the container application (such as MS Word).
Previously, the zoom setting in MS Word and other container applications was
disregarded by Rapid-Pi when an equation was opened for editing.
- Improved compatibility: Rapid-Pi has always worked well with Microsoft Word,
however, some compatibility problems existed when using Rapid-Pi in other applications
(such as WordPerfect). Rapid-Pi 1.5 now provides better compatibility with container
applications other than MS Word.
- Improved installation and installation repair: The Rapid-Pi Setup and the
Repair / Modify Installation Wizard are now able to repair an installation that
was damaged by MathType (when MathType is installed on top of Rapid-Pi, MathType
setup takes over / hijacks Rapid-Pi equations, making it impossible to edit
existing equations or create new Rapid-Pi equations).
- Improved integration with Word 2007: The Rapid-Pi Setup now detects Word 2007
and (if integration is enabled) places the Rapid-Pi button on the Insert tab
of the Ribbon.
Bug fixes
- The "prime" symbol was not displayed correctly when used more than once
in a row (eg f' was displayed correctly but f'' wasn't).
- In the trial version, it was possible to close Rapid-Pi while the trial
reminder screen was still open. This caused a subsequent crash.
- Rapid-Pi sometimes crashed if the TextEquation input bar was made floating.
- Rapid-Pi sometimes crashed if MS Word window was switched rapidly while
Rapid-Pi was loading.
- With in-place activation disabled, Rapid-Pi sometimes crashed if the MS Word
window was closed without first closing the Rapid-Pi window.
Version 1.2 Build 1578 (Released on 24-Jan-2006)
- Minor changes to provide support for purchasing Rapid-Pi through resellers
Version 1.2 Build 1570 (Released on 27-Dec-2005)
New Features / Enhancements
- Setting to enable / disable in-place activation
Bug Fixes
- Umlauts were sometimes displayed incorrectly
- Some symbols (like #) could not be entered on non-US layout keyboards
- Rapid-Pi toolbars were not correctly displayed in MS Excel
- Rapid-Pi crashed when opened in QwikStat
- Rapid-Pi crashed if an equation object was first opened in-place and then
opened in a new window via Equation Object->Open
- Rapid-Pi crashed in MS Word under rare circumstances
