Rapid-Pi: Frequently Asked Questions

Pre-Installation Questions

Hardware: Rapid-Pi runs on computers with a 1GHz (or faster) CPU and at least 128Mb of RAM. Most computers manufactured after 2001 should meet these requirements.

Software: Rapid-Pi runs under Windows 2000 and Windows XP (please note that Rapid-Pi is not compatible with earlier versions of Windows). Rapid-Pi also requires that Microsoft .NET Framework be installed on your computer (more information about the .NET Framework).

Yes is it. Rapid-Pi is best used with Microsoft Word 2000 and later versions but is also compatible with older versions of Word and with most other word processors.

General Questions

Rapid-Pi supports a large number of mathematical symbols, including all symbols provided by Microsoft Equation Editor. If you run into a symbol that you need but that isn't currently supported, please submit a feature request.

Yes you can - your recipient doesn't need to have Rapid-Pi installed in order to be able to view and print documents containing Rapid-Pi equations. However, your recipient will need to install Rapid-Pi fonts. Rapid-Pi fonts are available for download from the Rapid-Pi web site, free of charge.

If you are sending a document containing Rapid-Pi equations to a person who does not have Rapid-Pi, please direct them to download and install Rapid-Pi fonts from:

   www.rapid-pi.com/downloads/Rapid-Pi-Fonts.exe

They will only need to do this once.

NOTE: Rapid-Pi 2.0 supports rendering equations in "Portability Mode" Portability Mode equations can be viewed on any computer without requiring Rapid-Pi fonts. Portability Mode equations look the same as normal equations when viewed on the screen (without zooming) but have a lower quality when printed. You can turn on Portability Mode via the Edit menu in Rapid-Pi.
